Statement by WUJS Condemning the Suspension of the Federation of Israeli Medical Students from IFMSA

The World Union of Jewish Students condemns the recent suspension of the Federation of Israeli Medical Students (FIMS) from the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA).

This action, taken without any formal investigation or presentation of evidence, represents a disturbing and dangerous trend of discrimination against Israeli and Jewish students on a global scale.

FIMS has not received any official reason or argumentation for its suspension. The is a violation of the principles of fairness, transparency, and due process that should be present within any international association.

The ground has now been set for a deeply concerning precedent.

If international bodies can groundlessly suspend an entire national federation of medical students based on biased political motivations, it opens the door to further discriminatory actions against Israeli professionals in other fields, such as law, engineering, etc.

Furthermore, this action by the IFMSA not only endangers Israeli and Jewish students but also contributes to an environment of increasing hostility and intolerance that could lead to further exclusion of Jewish students from associations around the world.

Professional and academic platforms cannot be allowed to be weaponized for political purposes, particularly when it leads to the marginalization and vilification of an entire group of people based on their nationality or religion.

The World Union of Jewish Students stands firmly with the Federation of Israeli Medical Students and calls on the IFMSA to immediately reverse this unjust suspension, and to recognize the dangerous implications of this decision.
