The World Union of Jewish Students is deeply horrified and heartbroken by the shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
We stand united in support of the Jewish community of Pittsburgh and the families of the victims, join in their mourning and extend to them our deepest sorrow.
Places of worship especially hold significance in our lives as a place of sanctuary and a symbol of peace. To violate that space is not just wrong, it’s an abhorrent act of injustice. But what we must remember looking forward is that the synagogue will stand strong and our places of worship and discovery will always persevere.
Such acts of senseless violence are never acceptable under any circumstances, and we must be steadfast in our opposition to violence and the tactics of division against all peoples.
Jewish people will not be cowed into silence; we stand united against antisemitism and will continue to practice our religion, and fight for a more just and united society.
May the memory of all the victims of the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting be a blessing.
