It is with deep concern and outrage that the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS) addresses the recent wave of antisemitic incidents involving Ivy League heads and their troubling statements.
The comments made by individuals associeted with prestigious academic institutions, suggesting genocide against Jews and endorsing harassment towards Israel and Hamas, are not only deeply troubling but also run counter ro the values of tolerance, respect, and diversity that should be upheld by institutions of higher learning.
Jewish leaders, students, and activists have been tirelessly advocating for increased safety for Jewish people on campuses, especially since October 7th. Regrettably, these calls have gone unanswered. The recent revelations about the presidents of Harvard, MIT, and Penn further highlight the urgent need for comprehensive and immediete response to combat antisemitism on university grounds.
We, as WUJS, condemnt these antisemitic incidents in the strongest possible terms, we call upon the leadership of these institutions to take swift and decisive action against antisemistism, ensuring that such sentiments find no refuge within the academic community.
Antisemitism is a challenge that affects not only the Jewish community, but strikes at the core of the principles that underpin a just and tolerant society. We urgeuniversities to demonstrate their commitment to eradicating antisemitism by implementing concrete measures to ensure the safety and well-being of jewish students and staff.
WUJS temains dedicated to combating antisemitism and discrimination. We stand united with global Jewish community in demanding justice. Accountability, and an unwavering commitment to fostering an environment of inclusivity, where individuals of all backgrounds can pursue education, free from fear and prejudice.
